Self-Evident Education will present the premiere of “A Mother’s Bond” in partnership with Historic Northampton, Northampton Open Media, Northampton Education Foundation, and Northampton Public Schools.

Date: Saturday, October 9, 2021 3:00-4:30 pm

Location: Northampton Center for the Arts (Eli’s Room) 33 Hawley Street, Northampton, MA

“A Mother’s Bond” presents the story of Catherine Linda, a woman who was enslaved in Savannah, Georgia and was brought to Massachusetts by her enslavers in 1845. It is a complex and nuanced story that complicates our understandings of freedom, personhood, place, North v. South, motherhood, violence, and so much more.

The event will be hosted via Zoom in addition to being streamed via Northampton Open Media’s Focus Locus platform. The program will be co-hosted by Michael Lawrence-Riddell, co-founder and executive director of Self-Evident Education and Boston Hiphop legend and UMass Boston professor Akrobatik. It will be the public premiere of “A Mother’s Bond”. Seating is limited, so please RSVP. Masks are required.

This premiere is presented in conjunction with Vorheez and the Northampton Center for the Arts and will be immediately followed by the FunkBash from 4:30-8:30 pm, a block party for folks of all ages, featuring DJs, a live band, food and beverages, and more.
