Featured Module

Get a Mule, Forty Acres or So…

Our newest module invites students into one of the most important and unfinished questions of Reconstruction: what did freedom require to be real, and what happened when that promise was denied?

Rooted in themes of land, freedom, justice, and the promises made in the aftermath of emancipation, this module gives educators a meaningful way to deepen students' understanding of Reconstruction. Through film, discussion, inquiry, and flexible classroom activities, students are encouraged to make connections between freedom, ownership, historical memory, and the ongoing pursuit of justice in the United States.

What educators are saying

“One of the biggest issues that we are looking to address is student engagement. The storytelling approach of Self-Evident is immensely engaging for our students.”
Regina Wallace
Social Studies Coordinator, Clayton County Public Schools, Georgia
“To say that my students were thoroughly engaged with Self-Evident’s resources is the understatement of the century. These resources raised the bar.”
Sarah Anzelmo-Steele
Social Studies teacher, Richmond, Virginia
“Everything about this is SO well-done! I’ve learned more about Sojourner Truth than I have in reading about her for years!”
Jemelleh Coes
Professor, University of Georgia & Mount Holyoke College; 2014 Georgia Teacher of the Year
